Jane Birkin and her Basket

The Birkin bag that came to the market in 1986, is a design inspired by the encounter during a trip between the fifth president of Hermes Jean Louis Dumas and the French acctress Jane Birkin.
When the president of HERMES at that time met with the Franch singer Jane Birkin on the airplane, she complained to the president that it was hard to find a big tote bag which was exquisite in workmanship as well as practical. Therefore, the president has specially designed this handbag for her, which was also named after her. Birkin bag is developed on the basis of Kelly bag, and with a larger size and without the cover; Birkin is perfect for trips and serves as briefcase. What’s more, Birkin has a more casual style than Kelly and a richer choice of materials and colors as well.
Turns out that, according to Wikipedia, Jane Birkin herself had to pay for the now famous Hermes bag that was first made for her. Cheap french!
She was later reimbursed with a 10% discount on all Hermes products.

I'm partial to the basket on the days she's wearing fur.
